      Sir William Henry Broadbent, 1st Bt. was born on 23 January 1835.1 He was the son of John Broadbent and Esther Butterworth.2 He married Eliza Harpin, daughter of John Harpin, on 5 August 1863. He died on 10 July 1907 at age 72.1
      Sir William Henry Broadbent, 1st Bt. graduated with a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.).1 He was invested as a Fellow, Royal College of Physicians, London (F.R.C.P.) in 1869.1 He was Physician Extraordinary to HM Queen Victoria.1 He was created 1st Baronet Broadbent, of Brook St., London and Longwood, co. Yorks [U.K.] on 10 August 1893.1 He was invested as a Fellow, Royal Society (F.R.S.) in 1897.1,3 He was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Law (LL.D.) by University of Edinburgh, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland, in 1898.1,3 He was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Law (LL.D.) by St. Andrews University, St. Andrews, Fife, Scotland, in 1899.1,3 He was decorated with the Commander, Legion of Honour.1 He was invested as a Knight Commander, Royal Victorian Order (K.C.V.O.) in 1901.1,3 He was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Science (D.Sc.) by Leeds University, Leeds, Yorkshire, West Riding, England, in 1904.1,3 He was Physician in Ordinary to HM Edward VII.1 He was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Law (LL.D.) by McGill University, Montreal, Quebec, Canada, in 1906.1,3 He was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Law (LL.D.) by University of Toronto, Toronto, Ontario, Canada, in 1906.1,3 He has an extensive biographical entry in the Dictionary of National Biography.3

      William Henry Broadbent was born at Lindley, near Huddersfield, on 23 January 1835, the eldest son of John Broadbent, woollen manufacturer and a prominent Wesleyan. He was educated at Huddersfield College until the age of fifteen, when he entered his father's factory. He spent two years working in the factory, learning the processes of manufacture. In 1852, at the age of seventeen, he decided that he wanted to study medicine and became apprenticed to a Manchester surgeon, and was enrolled at Owens College.

    Sir William Henry Broadbent, 1st Baronet (23 January 1835 10 July 1907) was an English neurologist who was born in Lindley, now part of Huddersfield, West Yorkshire. He studied medicine at Owens College and the Royal School of Medicine in Manchester. For most of his career he was associated with St Mary's Hospital, London (18591896), and also the London Fever Hospital (18601879).
