Notes on Christopher ROYD 1549

ROYD, ROYDE or ROYDES
of Brownehill in Soyland
married first his cousin, Elizabeth Royde, d. of Brian ROIDES, gentleman
married second in Elland Grace Dewhurst.

In 1576 he conveyed 1 acre called Middillode Close to his mother Grace WODDE and sold 1 acre, 1 rood in Estflatt to Robert Townend; in 1579 he sold 3 acres called 'ffarr fflatt' and1 acre in Soyland to Gilbert Raminesden, and in 1586 mortgaged Brownehill to Andrew Holden of Haslingdon, Lancs (his son later sold it to Holden). He sold 'three four acres' in Soyland, containing 5 acres, to Thomas ffoxcroft in 1591 and Pighell, containing 1 acre 2 roods, to Edward Tattersall, and 'Severall' containing 2 acres 2 roods to Thomas Denton in 1594 (again, son sold more to Denton). Died August 1600 and buried at Elland. Succeeded by eldest son John.

RC Note: he certainly seemed to sell a lot of land! Wonder what he was spending his money on???
